Kornel Korb – VITA NOVA PRETORIA

Kornel specialises in counselling during a legal process, individual, couples, trauma, as well as teenager and young adult counselling.

Hi, I am Kornel.

My journey into counselling took a few interesting routes to ultimately get me where I am today. After completing my BA Law degree (2018) and LLB degree (2019) at the University of Pretoria (UP). I started working at a legal firm focusing on family law and criminal litigation. During this time I dealt with many cases including divorce cases, fraud cases etc. I had the opportunity to work with people from all walks of life not only assisting them legally but also having the chance to hear the stories and the reasons for their behaviour and decisions. I often worked in the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Facility, and it was during this time that I realised I will have to deepen my understanding of human behaviour before I will be able to try and regulate it. In 2020 I enrolled for my BSocSci Honours degree in Psychology at the South African College of Applied Psychology (SACAP). My focus during this year of studies included psychopathology, psychotherapeutic models of intervention and diversity in Psychology. I am currently busy with my Master’s degree in Community Mental Health Promotion at SACAP while I am actively involved at Saligna Halfway House as well as the ECHO youth Centre in Pretoria.

In practice I prefer to use a person-centred approach which is a non-directive, emphatic approach that empowers and motivates the client in the therapeutic process.

I have had the privilege to have worked with many people over the course of my career including divorcees, prisoners, individuals, teenagers, couples, drug users and groups. I am able to assist with counselling during a legal process, individual, couples, trauma, as well as teenager and young adult counselling.

Like Lori Gottlieb I believe that therapy is about understanding the self that you are. But part of getting to know yourself is to un-know yourself – to let go of the limiting stories you’ve told yourself about who you are so that you aren’t trapped by them, so you can live your life and not the story you’ve been telling yourself about your life.

I am looking forward to getting to un-know you, getting to know you and assisting you in writing a story without limits but with endless possibilities.
