YMKE HEMMINGA – HUMANITAS COUNSELLING STUDENT

Ymke volunteers her time by offering free online counselling via Zoom.

“Originally from the Netherlands I found my home in South Africa in 2003. My background is in Fine Arts, Illustration and playwright, and although art and writing will always weasel its way into my life, human beings, their thoughts, feelings and behaviours have been capturing my attention for as long as I can remember.

How are we supposed to figure out life when most of us hardly learn how to understand and regulate our emotions, how to communicate effectively or develop a healthy self esteem?
How are we supposed to raise happy, balanced, kind and confident children if we are still too busy licking our own childhood wounds?
I completed a BA degree in Applied Social Sciences in Counseling and Psychology through SACAP, I facilitate Parent Effectiveness Training (P.E.T) courses and completed 5 levels in Tree of Life training, a Narrative counselling methodology developed by Ncazelo Mlilo in South Africa.
I am inspired by the times in my life, when my light was dim, leaving me stumbling alone in the dark, and an empathic counsellor would have made all the difference in the world to me.
