Zanté volunteers her time by offering free online counselling via Skype.

In 2018, I successfully completed both my psychology and criminology degree at the University of Pretoria. Thereafter, I continued to complete my Psychology Honours degree in 2019 at the University of Pretoria. Throughout these 4 years of being a student, I volunteered at orphanages, safe houses, and centers for special needs children including, but not limited to, those with Autism, ADHD/ADD, Intellectual disabilities, learning disorders etc. This made me more aware of both the vulnerabilities and resilience of children. I find it very rewarding to help children reach their full potential by becoming both socially and emotionally stronger. Working alongside a Social Worker/ Play Therapist, has provided me with the necessary knowledge and skills to empower both children and their parents. This enabled me to explore various aspects of a child’s temperament, emotional expression, cognitive adaptability, and behaviour, while providing parents with the necessary skills and understanding to ultimately improve the relationship between them and their children.

Apart from working with children, I also find joy in working with adolescents, adults, and the elderly. I have always been interested in and passionate to work with victims of trauma, given the impact that it has on individuals and their families. I am passionate to help individuals thrive and lead a fulfilling life. I believe that through counselling, my client and I can create a space that is safe, non-judgemental, and equal. Through this process, clients can obtain powerful skills and tools that will assist him/her in the exploration of practical and empowering solutions while also experiencing personal growth in the midst of various struggles and concerns.

In 2020, I have been privileged to get the opportunity to be part of the Humanitas team. The Humanitas course equipped me with the competence, values, knowledge, and skills to counsel effectively and confidently. Through counselling, I came to the realization that my clients serve to be my greatest teachers. The stories and experiences that every client presents are so powerful, moving, and unique, that it can never be learned through reading a book, listening to a friend or colleague, or watching a movie.

“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending” – Maria Robinson.
