“Empathy is a strange and powerful thing. There is no script. There is no right way or wrong way to do it. It’s simply listening, holding space, withholding judgement, emotionally connecting and communicating that healing message of ‘you are not alone’” – Brene Brown
I am a person who has always had a passion for helping people. When I was younger my dreams ranged from becoming a doctor, a lawyer and then a social worker, however, those dreams changed when I discovered psychology and counselling. I have always had an empathetic nature towards others and the discovery of these professions just gave me a way to nurture and practise this gift of empathy. These professions also correlate and embrace my core values that I have always had such as loyalty, honesty, commitment, dependability, reliability, and open-mindedness to name a few.
I believe my personality also correlates a lot with a counselling profession in the sense that I am very soft spoken but can be direct when the situation calls for it. I am also a very caring and nurturing person, as well as a very good listener.
This was when I realized that the way I wanted and needed to help people had to be of a more one-on-one or personal nature. That was when I decided to get my degree and Honours degree in Psychology. Human nature and behaviour fascinates me. Why do we behave the way we do? Or why do we think the way we do? These questions have always been in the back of my mind, as well as how can we change these thoughts and behaviours.
Therefore, this year I decided to do the Humanitas counselling course of Vitanova which would enable me to start working as a counsellor earlier so that I can live my passion as a specialized wellness counsellor.

Ignite it till it is ash,
Whisper that I am soft and sweet,
Yet tough enough to last” – Unknown
