ANINE GEYER – HUMANITAS COUNSELLING STUDENT

Anine volunteers her time by offering free online counselling via Zoom.

“Dwell on the beauty of life. Watch the stars and see yourself running with them.”

My life journey so far has been quite unpredictable, however, yet interesting. While being on the journey to have come where I am now, I often missed the detail of the beauty around me. I recently realised that it’s part of the process to stop overthinking things and to trust the journey.

I grew up in a small town in the Eastern Cape, called Cradock. Thereafter, I was uncertain of what I wanted to go study, and decided on BA Communication Studies and Psychology at the University of the Free State. I fell absolutely in love with Psychology. I then did my Post Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of Free State in 2019 and completed my BPsychology honours at UNISA in 2020. I also taught English at a private school during 2020 in Langebaan, Western Cape.

My plans for 2021 is to pursue my goal and study further by doing Masters in Educational Psychology and research-based psychology. I am extremely interested, but not limited to, in trauma and marriage counselling. Other than psychology, some of my passions in life is nature, to go hiking and kayaking, playing piano, photography, water sports ,and challenging myself to new skills and overcoming fears. I firmly believe that life is a learning process and that one should grab every opportunity to grow. That’s the lovely thing about counselling-one never stops growing and learning, alone and with others.
